As spring comes about so do the love boaters. It may be a picturesque scene, but I’m not too sure how romantic the occasion is. Furthermore, isn’t the couple in the foreground proof that chivalry is dead in Japan? It would appear the woman is doing all the rowing while the man huddles himself to keep warm.

The day before was a mild success because of the bamboo forest, despite missing out on the monkeys. So on this day i put my determined face on and cycled all the way back to Arashiyama to look at some goddam monkeys!!
The route i took was on ichijo (一条) which takes you out into the countryside, before guiding you into Arashiyama. Whilst cycling along the road i saw this area and stopped to take this photo of a dried up lake. The only thing left was a little bit of standing water and some old boats resting on the dry ground. I wonder when rainy season comes, if this will be restored to its purpose of being a functional lake. These boats make me sad.
